November 7 – November 9: Kuata Island

Kuata is a much smaller island than Nacula, further south in the Yasawa Island group. Although it is rather small, size barely matters, as you will most likely only linger around your resort anyway.

From Nacula to Kuata

As mentioned before, all the islands in the Yasawa group are connected by a ferry that completes the whole loop once per day. This means boarding in Nacula around 1 pm and arriving at Kuata around 4 pm. The price for inter-island hops is considerably cheaper than connecting to or from Port Denarau. In this case, it was about €35.

Kuata

I stayed at Barefoot Kuata Resort, which was much larger than Oarsman’s Lodge. This felt more like an actual resort, but the concept was the same: you pay a low price for your accommodation, but also need to purchase the full meal plan. The food was extremely delicious here, with a plentiful buffet for both breakfast and lunch, and a three-course set menu for dinner. The true highlight of this place, however, is their onsite dive center, which offers the unforgettable experience of seeing bull sharks while scuba diving in a safe environment.
