February 4 – February 7 : Mendoza

Mendoza

Nestled at the foothills of the Andes, Mendoza is Argentina’s wine capital and a paradise for outdoor lovers. Famous for its Malbec wines, the region offers world-class vineyards, stunning mountain landscapes, and adventure sports like hiking and rafting. The city itself has a relaxed charm, with leafy plazas, wide avenues, and excellent restaurants. Whether you’re sipping wine in a sun-drenched bodega or trekking through the Andes, Mendoza delivers unforgettable experiences. It’s the perfect blend of nature, culture, and gastronomy.

From Buenos Aires to Mendoza

Most major Argentine cities are well-connected to the capital with several daily flights, and Mendoza is no exception. The journey takes about an hour and a half, with ticket prices ranging from 75 to 200 USD, depending on the day and time of travel.

How to get around and things to do in Mendoza

Mendoza is a small, safe, and easily walkable city. You can take an Uber or taxi to and from the airport, and a local train is available to reach the bodegas (vineyards) for just 1000 Pesos (less than 1 USD).

Two full days would probably be enough to experience Mendozas two main highlights:

  • Take a day trip to the Andes, located west of Mendoza, with Aconcagua as the highlight. With an altitude of 6,966 meters, this is the world’s highest mountain outside the Himalayas! You can rent a car or book a day tour with one of the many agencies in the heart of Mendoza. Along the way, you’ll pass through stunning mountain scenery and see the peculiar Inca Bridge, a natural bridge formed by mineral layers deposited on a glacier. As the glacier has since melted, only the mineral layers remain, creating this unique formation.
  • Go on a day tour to visit a few bodegas (vineyards), learn about local wine production, and slowly get tipsy under the sweltering sun while tasting delicious wines throughout the day. You can join a guided tour in a vehicle or, for a more fun experience, do a self-driven bike tour from one vineyard to the next.
